Guys, why do you think they have the video review/challenge capability in college and the pros now? The best of the best officials in the country miss calls, so why should we expect our local officials to be perfect?
No question on the difficulty involved on it. However, when an official uses the score of a game as an excuse for a personal foul, and tries to rationalize it, they really do make the others who do a good job, look bad. Look, the score was 32-7, that call would have meant nothing in the scheme of the game. Honestly, whatever bad calls there was, I dont think any of them had an influence in the game (biggest one was no flag on celebration that was the play when Robbins got hurt but even that wouldn't have 'unhurt' him). You're never going to stop facemasks or anything else, but what you do is create an atmosphere where 'things are allowed'. If players, on either team, know the game is at a level that officials aren't going to call anything, then you increase the odds of senseless injuries or what happens to often, the game gets out of hand. After the fact, after a player gets hurt, has their life changed, potentially ended, its too late to say "shoot I messed up by letting it get that far". Its football, accidents, injuries are going to happen. If a coach does something that increases the odds of an injury, then they sure get mentioned. Officials are the only ones that can truthfully control a game, and when your officials are more concerned about people in the stands, where a coach is standing, where they are eating afterwards or deciding calls based on the score, then they aren't doing their job and are as subject to being mentioned as anybody else.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

"Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on."
Again, read what is said instead of thinking its bashing officials.
I repeat what has been said before
A player messes up, they can get in trouble
A coach messes up, they can get in trouble
A fan messes up, they can in trouble
An official messes up, they might get sent on the long road trip next week.
Even on the small college level, there is a review process for the officials. Most officials want to be good, want to be better and think of it on a work place level. If you are in a department, and one person in your department for lack of a better word sucks, the department tends to be drug down by one person. Same boat here. Nobody expects perfection, but several of the good officials are drug down by the quality of others. Pay attention to what is said in the thread. Nobody is blaming an official for the result of the game. Actually, as was said, both teams weren't happy with them. It's too late to fix it once someone gets seriously hurt. It's too late to say shoot guess we let it go to far when a player is carried off on a backboard. Injuries are going to happen, but last I knew, rules subject to a points differential. I'll not say that we all aren't guilty sometimes of blaming officials too much. That being said, they are not above being questioned, and I have a hell of a lot more respect for an official who admits their mistakes than one who will try to convince you that the sun is green just because they messed up and said it was.

Just a general comment, not to anyone. I hate bad calls and reserve the right to complain. I think some need to watch their area more and the ball less. Holding by the wide-outs is a key to some running games and most times they are not looked at. The biggest thing for me is not blowing the whistle one way or another when tempers flare or the facemask is involved. We all calm down after a while, but refs must control the game, popular or not.
My comment wasn't directed at you, Rock, but at those who were criticizing. Of course, I do tend to agree about Honaker.....

My bad then. I just tend to get jaded because it seems like it you criticize officials, people think you're pointing fingers or making excuses
I just guess there was a few things said/done that rubbed me wrong and it wasn't so much the mistakes, it was the attitude about the mistakes. I don't think that officiating should be taken to task most of the time, its been my view that most of the time, the bad/missed calls tend to even out or come close to it. I just think that there should be more expected out of someone who is, I guess, the president of the association. Maybe one reason its hard to get better officials or more people isn't just the attitude of the fans, but the lack of positive dealing with the president and some decide why deal with it.

I know they have trouble getting new (young) officials, and the reason for that is the abuse/criticism they take. I know probably 75-80% of these guys/gals, and they are good people. I only have a problem with one of them because I doubt his integrity, not his ability to officiate a game.
Bottom line is we need some young blood, but I hesitate to encourage anyone to do it because of the unforgiving attitude of fans in our area.
At one time, I was as critical as any other fan of the job they did. Over time I have developed a new respect for these guys and the job they do.
